Some people go to the gym to get their workout in. I do that too, but I also have a habit of looking at everything that needs to be done around the house as another opportunity to get moving. 😂
Mowing, weed eating, working on projects, cleaning up outside — it all adds up. And honestly, I enjoy seeing how much I can get done while getting a workout at the same time.
My kind of motivation. 😂
Getting things done and getting a workout at the same time.
Turning an Active Day Into a Workout
I've always liked staying active, and I actually enjoy a lot of the work that comes with keeping up with our house and projects.
Some days that means mowing. Other days it's weed eating, working outside, or moving from one project to the next.
Instead of thinking of all of it as just another chore, I like looking at it as a way to get outside, burn some energy, and accomplish something at the same time.

Why I Like Tracking My Activity
One of the things that makes it fun for me is tracking my activity throughout the day.
I like seeing how much I've moved, how long I've been active, and what my heart rate is doing while I'm working. It's interesting to see how much effort everyday jobs can take.
Of course, calorie numbers from a fitness tracker are estimates, not exact measurements. I mostly use them as a way to compare my own activity and keep myself motivated.
My favorite part:
At the end of the day, I can look back and see both what I accomplished and how much I moved.
Push Mowing Is Still One of My Favorites
I've mentioned before that I genuinely enjoy push mowing. I know that probably sounds strange to some people, especially when there's a riding mower available. 😂
But I like the exercise, the sunshine, and the time to think while I'm outside. It's one of those jobs that feels productive and peaceful to me, even with the mower running.
If you're curious, I wrote more about that in my Anyone Else Actually Like Push Mowing? post.
It's Not About Having a Perfect Workout
Not every active day has to be a planned workout with a set number of exercises.
Sometimes it's just getting started on the things that need to be done and realizing you've been moving for hours.
I still enjoy regular workouts, but I also like finding ways to stay active through everyday life. For me, the two go together.
And if I can finish a project, get the yard looking better, and get some exercise in the process, that's a pretty good day.
My Kind of Motivation
I think a lot of my motivation comes from having something to work toward.
Whether it's finishing a room, cleaning up the yard, or tackling another project, I like being able to see progress.
Sometimes one project leads to three more, but at least I'm getting some exercise while I work through the list. 😂
