Unlikely Living • Florida Restaurants & Hidden Gems
Looking for a unique place to eat in Brooksville, Florida? We found a French-inspired crêperie in a charming historic house, with colorful décor, creative food, specialty drinks, and a little shop to explore.
One of my favorite things about exploring Florida is finding places that are a little different. My husband and I visited The Lazy Maid Crêperie while spending time in Brooksville, and I loved how much personality this place has.
Between the whimsical atmosphere, the crêpes, and the shop, this is the kind of stop that turns a simple meal into part of the adventure.
What Is The Lazy Maid Crêperie?
The Lazy Maid Crêperie is a French-inspired breakfast and lunch spot at 419 Howell Avenue in Brooksville, Florida. Rather than a typical restaurant building, it occupies a historic house, giving it a cozy, eclectic feel.
Crêpes are the specialty. Think thin, delicate French-style pancakes with fillings that can be sweet enough for dessert or savory enough for a full meal. The menu also includes coffee and specialty drinks.
A Restaurant With Plenty of Personality
What caught my eye immediately was the atmosphere. There are charming details around the property, and the umbrellas hanging overhead are such a fun feature. It's a place where you want to look around instead of just sitting down and ordering.
What We Ordered at The Lazy Maid Crêperie
We tried several things during our visit, and I took photos so you can see the actual dishes and drink rather than relying only on a menu description.
Crêpe Omelette du Fromage Supreme
This is an omelette-inspired savory crêpe, bringing together breakfast-style ingredients in a thin crêpe rather than a traditional folded omelette. Published descriptions of the Supreme version mention egg, cheese, vegetables, and savory toppings; check the current menu for the exact preparation.
Honey, You Must Try This
This is the wonderfully named dish my husband ordered. Rather than guess at every filling or topping from the photo, I've included our actual picture so you can see how The Lazy Maid served it during our visit. For the exact ingredients, refer to the restaurant's current menu.
Love Potion No. 9 Coffee Shake
We also ordered the Love Potion No. 9 Coffee Shake. It's one of those fun, named specialty drinks that makes the menu feel a little different from an ordinary café. Here's what ours looked like.
The Crookie
And then there's the Crookie! A crookie is a croissant-and-cookie mashup, combining a flaky pastry idea with a cookie-style treat. We ordered The Lazy Maid's version, and of course I had to get a picture.
The Lazy Maid Crêperie Menu: Sweet and Savory Options
If you're trying to decide what to order, one of the nice things about a crêperie is the variety. You can choose a savory meal, a sweet treat, or something from both sides of the menu.
Savory Crêpes
The savory side includes breakfast-style crêpes and heartier combinations with ingredients such as eggs, cheese, meats, and vegetables. Examples from published menus include omelette-style selections and a French Monte Cristo-inspired crêpe.
Sweet Crêpes
For dessert lovers, published menu selections have included fruit-forward creations such as Blue My Mind, Strawberry Fields Forever, and Banana Dream. These are examples rather than a guarantee of what's available on the day you visit.
Coffee and Signature Drinks
The drinks deserve their own look, especially if you enjoy discovering unusual coffee-shop creations. In addition to coffee offerings, The Lazy Maid has a signature-drinks menu with playful options like the coffee shake we tried.
There's Also a Little Shop to Explore
Another thing that makes this stop interesting is the shopping experience associated with the property. The Rose Cottage has been described as a boutique-style space highlighting gifts and items from small businesses and local makers.
Products associated with the shop have included candles, home fragrances, handmade gifts, and decorative finds. Inventory and opening arrangements can change, so I wouldn't count on any particular item being available. But if you enjoy browsing little shops when you travel, it's worth checking whether it's open during your visit.

I also filmed a short video of our visit, including some of the details that made this restaurant stand out to me.

Make It Part of a Brooksville Day Trip
We were already exploring Brooksville, and this made such a fun stop along the way. The historic downtown area and beautiful older homes are part of what makes this Florida town interesting to wander around.

Finding the Unexpected in Everyday Florida
One of the reasons I'm expanding this blog into Unlikely Living is to share more of the places we discover while we're out living everyday life. Sometimes that's a beautiful park, sometimes it's a historic small town, and sometimes it's a crêperie with colorful umbrellas and a little shop.
Would you order a savory crêpe, a sweet one, or both?
